Discover the delights of traditional Indian textiles, and immerse yourself in the splendor of Indian fabrics, including beautiful silk which was used in ancient Roman times, and Gujarati cotton which was discovered in 5th century Egyptian tombs. Learn about the ‘Silk Route’ and the fabrics, which were exported to China, and indulge in stunning Indian art as you discover beautiful India. Enjoy the awe-inspiring Varanasi and Lucknow, to the wonderful Mysore, and be hypnotized by the important, and incredibly spiritual heart of Kanchipuram.
Day 1: Arrive Chennai
Your first day in Chennai! We’ll greet you at the airport and transport you to your hotel.
Day 2: Chennai
Your day begins with a pleasant drive outside of Chennai to the city of Kanchipuram, renowned for its magnificent silk fabrics and saris. These beautiful pieces of hand woven art are made on traditional looms which you will be able to see as we visit some of the workshops that are in the centers of town.
Day 3: To Mysore via Bangalore
You’ll fly to Bangalore in the morning, and be greeted by our local representative and driven to Mysore. On the way, you’ll visit an impressive island fortress called “Srirangapatna,” which is also summer palace of Tipu Sultan and a mausoleum of Gumbaz. Before arriving and checking into your hotel, you’ll stop to see the spectacular Mysore Palace.
Day 4: Mysore
Today you’ll have an early start so you’ll be able to truly appreciate the hustle and bustle of the Devaraja Market and all of its vibrant displays of fruits, flowers, vegetables and aromatic spices. After the market, you’ll visit the City Palace, and then move on to a Mysore silk factory, famous for premium quality silk and saris that will not fade or lose their sheen for many years to come.
Day 5: To Ahmedabad via Bangalore
Return to Bangalore for your flight onto Ahmedabad. Upon arrival in Ahmedabad, you will be escorted to your hotel.
Day 6: Ahmedabad
Today is Museum day! The Calico Museum of Textiles is the top-ranking textile museum of India, and it is your first stop on this exciting day in Ahmedabad. Next up, the Kite Museum, which boasts an exclusive collection of very rare one-of-a-kind kites. Moving along, you’ll visit the Utensils museum and have a wonderful vegetarian dinner at its restaurant, Vishalla.
Day 7: Ahmedabad
A second day of interesting excursions awaits you today. You’ll visit Sayla, the town where the mirrors for the famous Gujarat mirror embroidery are handcrafted. Afterwards, you’ll visit the villages of Kathi and Bharwad, where you will enjoy learning about centuries-old beadwork traditions that are still alive and well to this very day.
Day 8: To Jaipur
After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a morning stroll through the old city of Ahmedabad, where you will be able to observe its one-of-a-kind architecture. After lunch, you’ll fly to Jaipur where you will check into your hotel,and enjoy a leisurely afternoon at your own pace.
Day 9: Jaipur
Your day starts off with a fun outing to Sanganer, a little town that is known for its hand-printed textiles, handmade paper, whimsical crafts, and traditional small floral prints that are absolutely striking. In the afternoon, you’ll head to downtown Jaipur, aka The Pink City, where you will visit the City Palace Museum and learn about the interesting history of the gem of Rajasthan. The City Palace is the residence of the present day maharajah of Jaipur and his family, in addition to boasting a fine display of royal jewels, esteemed art, and cultural artifacts.
Day 10: To Varanasi via Delhi
This morning fly via Delhi to Varanasi, the holiest city on the Ganges River. Travel by rickshaw to the ghats and observe the sacred rituals on the banks of the river.You’ll have an early morning flight to Varanasi via Delhi, the most sacred city located on the Ganges River.You’ll travel to the ghats by riding on a traditional rickshaw and then discover the mysticism of the holy rituals that are performed along the banks of this world famous river.
Day 11 : Varanasi
You’ll take an early morning sunrise cruise on the famous Ganges River, where you will observe the devoutly religious pilgrims as they perform their ritual cleansing under the golden sun and blue skies. A bit later, you’ll take a fascinating tour of Varanasi’s silk weaving center where you will witness the intricate process that is used to manufacture some of the most beautiful silk sarees in the world.
Day 12 : To Lucknow
Early this morning, you’re off on a trip to the city of Lucknow, where you’ll take a guided tour and visit some interesting landmarks, including the opulent mausoleum of Bara Imambara Chota Imambara, and the impressive Rumi Darwaza gateway.
Day 13 : Lucknow
Today you’ll come to appreciate a bit of Indian history, when you visit the ruins of the Residency: the site of the first battle for independence in 1857. Afterwards, you’ll head to the bazaar, where you’ll take a guided tour to the famous chikan embroidery center. Chikan style embroidery is a unique handiwork that has its roots and history in the city of Lucknow.
Day 14 : To Delhi
After breakfast you’ll take a morning flight to Delhi where you will be met by our local representatives and escorted to your hotel. You’ll have a leisurely afternoon to prepare for your onward travels.
Day 15 : Depart Delhi
Farewell India! Today you’ll be transferred to the airport and where you will board your onward flight.
